The film begins with the charging of the open-hearth furnace with molten pig-iron and steel-scrap, proceeding with a description in diagrammatic form of furnace structure - with melting hearth, superstructure and lower furnace - and the regenerative system for the firing of the furnace. After sampling, the film continous with the tapping of the smelt into ladles, which, after the addition of alloying and deoxidizing agents, are transported to the casting bay.
