Sam and Bill, two down-and-out and slightly dumb criminals, believe that they can make some quick cash by abducting a banker's son from a small town in Alabama, asking for a 2000 Dollar ransom. But as soon as they have brought little Johnny to their hideout in the woods, it becomes clear that the boy, besides not being particularly scared of his kidnappers, is a pain. As "Red Chief, terror of the plains", as Johnny likes to style himself, he takes great delight in torturing Bill with his pranks. Almost at the end of their tether, Sam and Bill carry on with the abduction and contact Johnny's father to demand the ransom. However, he refuses to take back the boy, unless the kidnappers pay him 250 Dollars. Eventually, in complete frustration Sam and Bill meet the fathers demands to get rid of the boy.
