The beginning of shipping traffic on the Vltava River is dated back to 1865. The tradition is further developed by Dopravní podnik hl. města Prahy (The Transportation Authority of the Capital City Prague); in its boat yard there are four steamers at anchor at the end of the 70ûs - Vyšehrad, Děvín, Vltava and Labe. In the period before the summer season the steamersû crews are carrying out necessary maintenance - they are replacing old defect parts, painting the steamers, and we can also see them loading coal manually. Then the steamers, carrying a lot of passengers, are setting off their voyage from Prague to the Slapy dam and back.
