In 1929 Czechoslovakia commemorated the 1000th anniversary of St. Wenceslas's death. The event was organized by gymnastic organization Orel. President Masaryk welcomed children in the Prague Castle. In the garden the children could enjoy small refreshment. At the upper part of Václavské náměstí (Wenceslas Square) you can see a military show. President Masaryk is handing over a standard to the 8th Cavalry Regiment, which was renamed to St. Wenceslas Regiment. In Veletržní palác there was opened an exhibition of statues made by Josef Václav Myslbek. Opening speeches were delivered by the famous painter Václav Rabas, politician Antonín Štefánek and Bishop Antonín Podlaha. On St. Wenceslas holiday there was organized an assembly on the third courtyard of the Prague Castle and in St. Vitusûs Cathedral. The event was attended by Bishop Antonín Podlaha.
Anton Štefánek commemorated St. Wenceslas in his speech and outlined his importance for the Czech and Slovakian nations. The event culminated by a ceremony parade marching through Prague. Another important event held at the occasion of the celebrations was a ceremony church parade marching from St. Peter and Paul's Cathedral in Vyšehrad to St. Vitusûs Cathedral. In a special box church dignitaries were carrying the saint's skull and armament. A historical film was made to commemorate the memory of St. Wenceslas. Besides the film shots showing the main actors wearing historical costumes you may also watch how the film was being made.
