Im Futterhaus werden die Stengel von den Samenkapseln durch Riffeln befreit und in dünnen Lagen auf einem Wiesenstück ausgebreitet, wo sie einen Fäulnisprozeß durchmachen. Anschließend werden die Stengel in einer abseits vom Gehöft liegenden Dörrgrube gedörrt, dann gebrochen und auf dem Hofplatz gehechelt.
