Venice: March 1848. Students and workers rise against the Habsburg regime. They attack the prison in masses and set Daniele Manin and Niccolò Tommaseo free. Some days later the Austrians leave Venice, and Manin proclaims the restoration of the glorious Republic of San Marco. When the war of the Piedmont against Austria is irrevocably lost, Venice knows how to uncover her old majesty: the city is put under siege, but it resists for 6 months; however, when an epidemic of cholera bursts out in the city, Venice must surrender. Nevertheless, it showed Italians that making Italy a reality could only happen through unity.
