In 1988 Petra Tschörtner portrayed the Free Orchestra, which was well established in the East Berlin music scene at the time, and known for its avant-garde style and interpretations. The members of the orchestra, plain factory workers, saleswomen and janitors in real life, express their unfulfilled dreams and their unspoken experiences through their music. Through their imagination, they create new worlds, often at odds with bleak reality.
