waiting. One of the boys gives the V sign and swears (?) at the camera. The boy in front of him
looks Indian(?) - dark skin, thick black hair and very broad nose (1.30). Men leaving the works;
two men playfully (?) fight (2.31). Pan right of group of men outside works (2.41). Two men wave
their handkerchiefs from a window with iron bars (2.53mins). Notes: Workforce of approxiately
7,000 employees. Founded in 1823 for the manufacture of iron and in the 1880s expanded to steel.
The neighbouring economy of Rawmarsh was dependent upon this factory. Information provided by Dr.
