Among the Makiritare basketry is largerly made by the men, who especially make the beautifully patterned plates for serving up manioc flat cakes. These plates are the most important artificial products of this tribe. The film presents the making of such a Waha (guapa) by the three-strand twilling technique. The patterns represent animals in geometrical stylization and have a symbolic and mythologic meaning.
