The film shows the development of the stalk of the moss Funaria hygrometrica. It begins with the stalks appearing as lateral buds of the protonema and their subsequent development into moss plants with three rows of fronds. The fronds and spiral growth of the whole stalks are shown unfolding. In the stills the film then illustrates the formation of antheridia and archegonia, shows spermatozoids in movement and then gives an example of the formation of the sporophyte inside the archegonium belly.
