The Love of the Little Dancer's Life

This puppet animation film tells an exciting and at the same time scary love story. The appeal of the film lies in its beautifully tinted images and the lovingly designed marionettes, in particular their highly detailed features.

The film features some clear references to Robert Wiene's "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" (1919), this already becomes apparent in the working title: "The Cabinet of Dr. Larifari". These conscious references by Director Alfred Zeisler and screenwriter Victor Abel also influence the expressionist visual design, which is transferred from the two-dimensional to the three-dimensional. However, their film does not actually copy its famous model. The conflict develops in a much more melodramatic way, Zeisler and Abel focus on the popular triangle of hero, damsel in distress and villain. This film is one of the first German puppet animation films.
