The film shows the hatching responses of Heterodera rostochiensis larvae in their eggs to natural stimulant and to an artificial stimulant, sodium metavanadate. Whereas the natural stimultant induced the larvae to cut an exit aperture in the eggshell, in sodium metavanadate the shell was softened and allowed the nematode to break out.
