The number "1941" rises exploding and flaming as a 3-dimensional object from a nightly town. Two successful films of Spielberg are presented briefly. (Jaws and Close Encounters of the Third Kind). It then goes to the actual film: Hollywood in the winter 1941, the Japanese have just attacked Pearl Harbor. Life in Hollywood takes its recent run. People are celebrating and dancing. Until someone on the West Coast sights an emerging Japanese submarine and shouts the alarm. The National Guard shows poise and shoots wildly around. A couple of pilots seek contact with the enemy and fly through the narrow streets of the city. There are fights, and general confusion. The military is on alert and a General promises, that there is no reason for concern. A troop of patriots believe in the heyday of California. The head of the group is meant to save Hollywood. The time of self-proclaimed heroes begins and battles on the ground, in the air and at sea are fought. The only thing they forget is the enemy...
