Issa Yussufami, a Kanembu, plays the guitar tjegeni. The instrument has three strings of horse-hair which the player plucks with his right hand while the fingers of his left hand strike the strings. The tones of the tjegeni imitate the melody of words and it is possible for the player to "speak" with the tjegeni. The instrument is only used for entertainment and is played by men only.
