The film looks at international fast food companies. Collecting evidence from the cattle farms in the remote areas of the tropical rainforests of Central America, to the slaughterhouse industries in the countries of the Third World, to the meat ball strategists in the head offices of the food companies. The connection between poverty and hunger in the Third World and our local food habits is made explicit. With the example of Costa Rica the film examines several aspects: the continued clearing has obvious negative consequences to the ecology; in spite of increasing production the local population can only afford less beef; dwindling beef prices lead small breeders to ruin, the final repercussion: hamburgers instead of corn. An internal McDonald's PR memo: "We are teaching people a whole new way of life."
