In the flood area of the Theiss - at a length of about 100 kilometres - in the Great Plain of Hungary several Rroma groups, in the past decades, earned their living also by making throughs, tools, even dugouts, from tree trunks. In the region Poroszló they cut down poplars in the forest and hollow out troughs, at Tiszafüred they carve ladles. They use carpenter's tools. Their techniques are a mixture of professional and amateur methods.
