The garland maker (Mali) Ramphal Bhandari makes paper-thin strips from the root fibres of the aquatic plant kodhila. The Mali then ties the strips into round tufts or pompons (geni) suspended as decoration in religious ceremonies. The second part of the film shows the Mali making a jhanp, a temple-shaped miniature baldachin suspended over a place of worship.
