There are only some few people recalling that the grand silent film "Metropolis" was not silent at all.
Live - in front of the audience - music and image flowed together in a unique artistic composition. Over the decades the film was subject to changes. The music seemed lost.
60 years later a documentary tells how and by whom "Metropolis" recovered its identity and its music.
In harmony with the restorers, the DEFA Symphony Orchestra, specialized in playing music in synchronism with the picture. Musicians who, regardless of their impending dismissal, made the "Metropolis" music universally known.
