Computer animations show the basic principles of plate tectonics: the Earth's crustal movements are reconstructed temporally and spatially over the past 600 million years; the adduction at the plate margins and convection being shown as the "motors" of such movements. Tectonic culmination and rock metamorphosis (orogenesis) are the result of plate collision. The geomorphology of the Upper Palatinate in the vicinity of the KTB deep drilling borehole, the most important rock formations and their origins as well as the first drilling results are presented.
