A hunter locates the run of a steenbok and blocks all the other passages between the bushes so that the antelope is forced to pass through one place only. After selecting a large, suitable, springy branch, he anchors this in the ground at the passage point. To it he attaches the snare and fastens it exactly in the passage with its loop open and its trigger mechanism set and attached to a peg. The loop is carefully hidden under grass and sand.
