Suddenly he is standing there: Till, 18 months old and 2 ft. 5 in. Tall. He looks up at Philipp, full of wonder. Philipp returns the look, because from now on and without preparation he has to take care of his son. His first reaction is to get rid of the child. There must be a kind soul in the park, or UNICEF or even a few nuns who would "do the needful".
But Till stays, turning Philipp's life upside down. Philipp has still to go on working, repairing television sets. Little by little he becomes more interested in how the little boy functions. These two dissimilar "men" become friends. Philipp tries to show Till life's wonders. He is happy to have someone to talk to. It's no big deal that the boy does not yet understand him; often, Philipp does not understand himself. However, at work, he compensates by "picking up" stations he has not even looked for. With Till, he has got to get out into the fresh air. As a single father, falling in love with a single mother is only one step away. But it's a winding road to an idyllic familiy life.
