Two worms that are ready to mate have crawled out of their adjacent burrows and lie with their anterior ends touching; the posterior ends remain in the burrows. Sperm comes out of the seminal vesicle on the 15th segment of the hermaphrodites; it flows along the seminal groove to the clitellum of the mating partner and is taken up by the receptaculum seminis located there.
