The retired Jeroným Faltus applies to work as a bricklayer on the building site. He seems quite old to the young secretary, and she offers him the position of the watchman instead. Faltus is proud of his qualification, after all, he even invented an improvement method, and so he refuses the offer. When he complains in a low voice that only an angel could help him at such a point, one readily introduces himself to him. It is the building manager Anděl (a play on words: Anděl in Czech means angel), who listens carefully to the old bricklayer, shows him around the entire building site and eventually gives him the desired working position.
