Das Prinzip des alternierenden Figurationsspiels hat für die balinesische Musik besondere Bedeutung. Ein Figurationselement wird dabei in rhythmische modellhafte Formeln aufgelöst, die jede durch einen besonderen Spieler ausgeführt und sozusagen nahtlos ineinandergewoben werden. Gegenstand des Films ist die am Reistrog praktizierte Oncangan-Rhythmik sowie ihre Übertragung auf abgestimmte Instrumente: Schlitztrommeln, Maultrommeln sowie Angklung-Orchester.
