International Gig Races at Cork International Regatta, held in Cork on 21th, 22nd July
1902. Replacement titles (0.10). Shot of a river, with two anchored rowing boats on it and a row
of houses on the far bank. There are trees behind them and the tops of other buildings are
visible on the hillside above the trees (0.16). A small paddlesteamer with two funnels goes by on
the far side of the river, and a racing boat with four oarsmen and a cox skulls by the anchored
rowing boats (0.28). They are followed by a racing boat of eight oarsmen plus a cox, which also
passes by the paddlesteamer (1.01). The eight-man boat veers across (towards the camera) (1.11),
moving out of the way of a sailing boat/barge, which is towing a rowing boat behind it. It has
two sails - a large one at the front and small one at the back. End (1.28 minutes) NB. The water
is quite fast-flowing. The rowers of the four-man boat are wearing white caps and striped shirts,
and the rowers of the eight-man boat are wearing dark caps and striped shirts. On the road on the
opposite bank is some kind of vehicle which is stationary at the beginning of the film but at
(0.48) starts to move slowly along the road and then goes out of shot. It doesn't look large
enough to be a tram, and it is not horse-drawn.
