Walter Beckmann (21J.) Is a newspaper journalist and gets to sensitive information whose publication would cause a scandal. He tries to capitalize on his knowledge and ends up to the attention of the law. He loses his job at a German newspaper and was sentenced to 6 months in prison for extortion.
Released from prison Walter Beckman tries to reintegrate into normal life. With much effort he finds a job as a journalist at a daily newspaper.

The film is semi-fictitious and half documentary and should most likely be used as a teaching film. Various elements are mixed together: Staged scenes with actors, interview scenes with pedestrians on the street, original newspaper articles and photographs.
