Ein Kupferstecherweibchen findet, angelockt durch die pheromonhaltigen Bohrmehlkrümel, das Bohrloch eines Männchens und kriecht hinein. Sechs Weibchen nagen je einen Muttergang, die schlüpfenden Larven fressen senkrecht zum Muttergang verlaufende Larvengänge. Es folgen Verpuppung und Schlüpfen der Jungkäfer. (Zeitraffung). Die Jungkäfer nagen ein Loch durch die Rinde nach außen und fliegen ab.
