First, the film shows the development of binovular twins and then the experimental procreation of uniovular twins. Depending on the level the ovum is constricted - in relation to the longitudinal axis of the future embryo - either two complete embryos or only one complete embryo and one abdominal section ("belly") develop from the semi-blastomeres. It depends on the intensity of the constriction whether two separate embryos or different double formations result: two heads or two heads with two bodies and one tail. When the egg is constricted before the first cleavage appears, then the nuclear supply to one half of the ovum will be delayed. Only after the half with the nucleus has cleaved itself several times, also the other half will get a nucleus. Now cleavage begins also in this half.
