The film shows the posterolateral exposure of the hip joint and the surgical removal of an advance-stage giant-cell tumour which has destroyed large part of the collum femoris and trochanter major. The removed coxic end of the femur is replaced by an all-metal endoprothesis (Vitallium), the insertion of which in the femoral canal is here shown, all essential steps of the operation being shown and commentated. In the same way, postoperative treatment, mostly physiotherapy, is explained and proof is given of good results. Also review of the topographic distribution of giant-cell tumours and shots of histogenic dissections of the removed tumour.
