A film about Portugal, showing the diversity of the country and its inhabitants. Includes shots of historic sites and coasts. Following old customs fishermen fish for tuna. The film also shows collective fishing, where fish are pushed together with the help of nets and then killed by hand. The camera observes the fishermen catching sardines near the shore or on the high sea; aboard a boat of a fishermen collective; catching cod. Due to the outdated fishing methods the 60 villages exclusively dependent on fish are ruled by poverty. Lisbon is portrayed in sharp contrast as a city of the privileged, who have made their beaches accessible for tourism.
