Sultan Saaud and Sultana Zoraida send their son Omar to study abroad since, according to a prophesy, by the time he is twenty-one, mortal danger will threaten him in his native country. The years pass and Omar returns home where no-one recognizes him. His identity is to be proven with the family dagger which he has kept all this time. His entourage is attacked just before they reach their destination; only Omar escapes. Meanwhile the city is preparing to welcome Omar home; in the master Mustafa's workshop, Labakan is finishing the festive attire designed for the Prince Omar. Labakan yearns for a noble and wealthy life; he steals the prince's clothes during the night and flees the city in disguise. He encounters Omar on the seashore and takes his horse and dagger, intending to pass himself off as the prince when he arrives at the palace. He declares the real prince a poor, mad tailor and the sultan has Omar thrown in prison. Omar's mother, however, does not believe that Labakan is her son. At her insistence the sultan sets both men a task but the result is not convincing. Two little caskets from the fairy Adolzaida finally speak the truth.
