This film describes community involvement in the psychiatric work done in a clearly defined region. It shows the in-patient and consultancy services offered, as well as the activities of extramural services such as social psychiatry, locally practing neurologists, the society for the psychically ill, known as "The Boat" with its leisure time activities and its decentralized hostel, the workshop for the psychically ill. It also describes cooperation between these various services. The film includes very informative selfportraits by psychically ill persons, especially schizophrenics.
