Die Häutung findet normalerweise auf dem Stiel statt; sie beginnt mit dem Häutungsspalt im Nackenbereich. Zuerst wird die Kopfkapsel gehäutet, danach der übrige Körper. Anschließend werden "Streckübungen" ausgeführt, bei denen besonders die Antennenborsten durchgekämmt werden.
