NEW PATENT SEAPLANE. Experimenting with Messrs. Short Bros. 160 hp seaplane fitted with patent folding wings(5). LS of the seaplane being pulled along on a narrrow road by 5 men. In the background is a sparse field and two large buildings (aircraft hangars?). Pan right to take in a profile of the seaplane. LS of the sea planes being pulled by car (reg KT 230) across what may be a bridge. In the background is a terraced street. A crowd of men watch it leave (32). LS of the wings being un-folded. The seaplane is surrounded by spectators: young boys, men and women (39). LS from a different angle and an improved view of both wings being unfolded in the wind (52). LS, from behind the seaplane, of its launch into a very broad bay (60ft). Notes: The Short Brothers' plane is a two-seater bi-plane. The craft itself is most likely either Admiralty Type 74 (which was first launched on 4 January, 1914) or a later version of this type. Michael J.H. Taylor's book, 'Shorts' (Janes: 1984), points out that there were seven of the type that appeared within one month of that date. These craft were initially launched from Dundee, Clacton, Westgate and Gravesend. Shorts Brothers in 1914 were operating out of Rochester in Kent. On the last terraced house the words W. Goodall are painted and beneath, obscured by a lamp-post is (most likely) the word Photographer.
