Replacement title (0.07) Stationary tram with crowds of men and boys in flat caps in
front. Building in background with 'Lace & Co' painted on. One man in a peaked cap (tram
driver) is attending to the tram, and as he turns he pulls a hose from it, running with water.
One of the well dressed men (wearing a bowler hat) in the crowd shoves another into the running
water, and then the man holding the hose joins in the joke and turns it on the rest of the crowd.
The crowd moves away but regroup in front of the camera. They all wave their hats at the camera
and the man with the hose sprays them again. [Jump] The man who was attending to the tram is now
in the drivers seat and the tram moves towards and past the camera. Tram has 'Mellin's foods' on
the front. The crowds left behind (men and boys in flat caps and women in shawls) wave at the
camera, and a horse and buggy cut across in front l-r. The camera pans left over the crowds and
past shop fronts, one of which is 'Salter & Salter' (the last shop, on the corner, has a
very large number 28 painted twice on the front and the side wall is plastered with posters)
until it is looking down the street (sloping down hill) after the tram. (2.18) Note: This is a
Kitson Locomotive and trailer in the Market Place of Wigan off to Pemberton. There is also a
glimpse of a new narrow gauge electric tram on the Markland Mill route in the background.
