The death of an old woman at Oku is followed by funeral and purification ceremonies occupying three days. After death songs sung by the women's society Fimbien the corpse is buried in the garden of the homestead. Further singing and dancing upon the grave conclude the first day. The second day is spent in eating, drinking, and dancing, and a ritual washing of the female relatives and the childless married young women takes place on the third day. The day is concluded by ritual sham fights performed by the women.
