20 year old shop assistant Angelika Urban is the centre of attention in Helma Sanders-Brahms' film. Angelika Urban talks about her work at a department store in Cologne (Kaufhof), her private life and dreams. Tape recordings of the interviews are set to footage from the department store. Angelika Urban is shown selling costume jewellery. Later, we see her at a further training for shop assistants. The fact that a member of the store's management earns about 100 times as much as her does not seem to trouble Angelika Urban. She is looking forward to her marriage, which she sees as an exit from the dependency of wage labour. She has no political interests, since she conceives politics to be an occupation for men. The film tries to show the social conditions which lead to a passive attitude towards their life in young women.
