Is the classical literature of a country only for the educated, the expert, and pupils at school? Has the inspiration and work, manysided as it is, of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe anything to say to the ordinary citizens of the GDR? This film attempts to answer this and other questions. It shows the great care and attention dedicated to his work and to the upkeep and restoration of the places associated with him.
